The Cat Switch Plan
The 3-day plan from your free Cat Switch Kit (plan, attractant sachet, catnip pouch) to move your cat from the old litter box to Moonbox. Most cats switch within a few days. Some take a week or two, and that's fine. Go at your cat's pace, not the calendar's.
Before you start
- Put Moonbox right next to the old box, in the same quiet spot.
- Fill it with the litter your cat already uses, about 4 inches (10 cm) deep. Same litter means only one thing changes.
- Add a scoop of used litter from the old box, so Moonbox smells like home.
- Check the barrel is locked in the neutral position.
- Lay your free litter mat in front of Moonbox to catch stray litter from paws.
Day 1: Meet Moonbox
- Let your cat sniff around and explore. Never put or hold your cat inside.
- Leave a few treats and a pinch of catnip from your kit on the landing pad. Praise every visit.
- Keep both boxes open and scoop the old one as usual.
Day 2: First uses
- After each use, clean Moonbox with its 5-second turn, calmly, with a treat for your cat if they're watching.
- Scoop the old box a little less often. Cats love a clean box, so a fresh Moonbox wins them over. Keep an eye on it: the old box should never get so dirty that your cat goes somewhere else.
Day 3: Make the switch
- Once your cat has used Moonbox a few times, take the old box away.
- Unsure cat? Move the old box a little further away each day instead.
- Keep Moonbox in the same spot from now on.
If your cat needs more time
- Go back a step. There's no rush.
- Put Moonbox exactly where the old box used to be.
- Sprinkle the attractant sachet from your kit on top of the litter.
- Senior cat? If your cat can handle a normal stair step, they can get in and out of Moonbox.
- If your cat avoids both boxes or has accidents, call your vet. It can be a health issue, not the box.
